At Errington Primary School, Religious Education is offered, at an appropriate level, to develop a broader understanding of the World’s religions and all that is encapsulated in each unique faith.   Children will be introduced to a range of major Religions; i.e. Christianity, Hinduism, Judaism, Buddhism, Sikhism and Islam.

The principal aim of Religious Education is to explore what people believe and what difference this makes to how they live. At Errington, children will learn about religious and cultural traditions, practices and beliefs, making comparisons and links between different religions. Children will develop a sense of awareness that for many individuals, religion can be a source of comfort and guidance. It can provide a basis for moral beliefs and behaviours. It can also provide a sense of community and connection to tradition.

Through investigation and enquiry, expression and empathy, application and analysis, pupils can acquire the knowledge, understanding and skills required to handle questions raised by religion and belief. This approach enables the promotion of pupil’s tolerance and mutual respect in a diverse society, whilst providing opportunities to reflect on their own ideas and ways of living.

Here at Errington, the delivery of Religious Education offers a structured and safe space during curriculum time for reflection, discussion, dialogue and debate, whilst enabling expression through a range of creative platforms such as Art, Music, Dance, Poetry. Children will gain first-hand experiential learning opportunities through visits to Places of Worship and guest appearances from followers of specific faiths.
