Physical development is a prime area of learning. Children are provided with a wide range of opportunities and experiences to develop their physical skills. Physical activity takes places in the indoor and outdoor provision. Activities that focus on building the fine motor skills (such as holding a pencil and using scissors) are provided in both the indoor and outdoor areas. Gross motor skills are mainly developed when using the outdoor areas of learning, where the children can climb, use bikes, balance and explore moving in different ways. To help support fine motor development, the children have fun in ‘disco dough’ where they build muscle and coordination in their hands. Nursery and reception have a PE slot each week.
